The Project MED-ROUTE

MED-ROUTE AIMS to promote 'cultural and other alternative forms of tourism in Both parts of the Mediterranean Sea basin through multimodal transport systems.

The ultimate goal is to increase to mobility in the thematic Participating regions for tourism purposes, while at the same time promoting accessibility from one region / country to the other. This goal will be Achieved - inter alia - through the development of a Web-GIS platform Mediterranean That will bridge cultures and transport systems of the Participating regions.

The specific Objectives of the project are Summarized as follows:

  • Increase / Enhance the capacity of Mediterranean Their Authorities in promoting local / regional identities and alternative forms of tourism
  • Develop new trans-Mediterranean tourism products ("routes" on cultural and thematic tourism in the Mediterranean basin)

The core activities foreseen for the achievement of project objectives are Briefly the Following:

  1. Existing situation analyzes in the Participating regions in terms of resources and means-for promoting tourism, availability and digitization / distribution of content Respective
  2. Identification of good practices on promoting thematic tourism from the Participating and / or similar Authorities in the Mediterranean basin - Benchmarking of the Participating Authorities
  3. Joint formulation of Strategic and Operational plans on the development and promotion of tourism in the thematic Participating regions
  4. Design and development of the Web-GIS platform - Pilot Operation / Evaluation by end-users / Fine-tuning / Launch
  5. Joint formulation of a "Green Paper on promoting thematic tourism in the Mediterranean Basin" that will include key findings of the project, selected good practices and policy recommendations and will be promoted and forwarded to policy makers (including the regional Authorities Participating in the project) , so as to Ensure proper considerations and mainstreaming with Programmes funded by Structural Funds, ENPI and other national or international donors, as well as to the European Commission (DG Regio, DG ENTR, DG RELEX, EuropeAid, etc.)

The project is co-financed by the ENPI CBC MED Programme under the Priority 1 (Promotion of socio-economic development and enhancement of territories) - Measure 1.2 (Strengthening economic clusters creating synergies Among potentials of the Mediterranean Sea Basin countries).

The ENPI CBC MED Programme

The 2007-2013 ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme is a multilateral Cross-Border Cooperation Initiative funded by the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). The Programme objective is to promote 'the sustainable and harmonious cooperation process at the Mediterranean Basin level by dealing with the common challenges and enhancing ITS endogenous potential. The Operational Programme Establishes a strategic framework of 4 Priorities Jointly defined by the Participating countries:

  1. promotion of socio-economic development and enhancement of territories
  2. promotion of environmental sustainability at basin level
  3. promotion of better conditions and modalities for Ensuring the mobility of persons, goods and capitals
  4. promotion of cultural dialogue and local governance.

Main the beneficiaries include regional and local public authorities, NGOs, associations, development agencies, universities and research institutes, as well as private actors operating in the fields of intervention of the Programme.
